Re: Day of Mourning, September 19, 2022

Dear Parents/Guardians of BTPS Students:

Yesterday, Canada announced that September 19, 2022, will be a federal holiday. This day is to mark the death of Queen Elizabeth II with a National Day of Mourning. Buffalo Trail Public Schools will observe the National Day of Mourning.

This one-time national holiday is meant for us to pay our respects to Queen Elizabeth II and honour the service she has provided to Canada and the Commonwealth of Nations.

Our schools will be closed September 19th and following the funeral our BTPS flags will be at full mast.

This is a historic time as many of us have not lived through a change of monarchy. The Queen’s obituary is here and there is an online book of condolences that the public can sign.
