BTPS Returns in 2022

BTPS Media Release - January 5, 2022

Happy New Year!

Buffalo Trail Public School students had an extended winter break as per the provincial announcement on December 30, 2021. Alberta Education also cancelled the January Diploma exams. This week, school staff are busy preparing for the return of students on January 10th, 2022. Alberta Education has shared that we are expecting students back in school. This is exciting as we have missed our students over the break.

To keep staff and students safe in school, we have several COVID-19 procedures in place such as daily health screening, enhanced cleaning and disinfection of high touch surfaces, promotion of good hand hygiene, and physical distancing when possible. There are provincial measures that continue to be in place as well, such as all staff and students wear masks on a bus, grades 4-12 students and all staff wear masks in schools and continuing to stay home when sick.

All students and staff must complete the Alberta Health Daily Checklist every day.

  • If students have any of these core symptoms, they will need to isolate as per the guidelines online.
  • It is extremely important to be diligent and ensure no one is coming to school with these symptoms.

To assist with the safe return to classes, Alberta Education will be sending all school divisions optional rapid test kits (for at home use) and medical masks for students and staff beginning the week of January 10th. There is no requirement for students or staff to rapid test at home or report the results of those tests. Students and staff have existing masks that they can continue to wear to school as well.

We appreciate parents, guardians and students' understanding and patience as BTPS staff continue to navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic and the uncertainty it brings for both schools and families.

Happy New Year. We wish everyone a safe and healthy new year.

Take care,

Rhae-Ann Holoien

Superintendent
