Statement re; Protests at BTPS Schools

Buffalo Trail Public Schools is aware of several organized protests that have taken place outside our schools in our communities that included students and parents.  Actions of this nature are very concerning as they put unnecessary stress on students and staff.   The number one priority of Buffalo Trail Public Schools is to ensure safety of all students and staff.

Protest actions are not allowed inside school buildings or on school property.  It is unlawful, as stated in the Education Act, for persons to disturb or interrupt the proceeding of a school, trespass on school property and in school buildings, or conduct themselves in a manner that is detrimental to the safe operation of schools.

The Education Act clearly states that it is a student’s and parent’s responsibility to ensure conduct of the student contributes to a welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning environment and comply with the rules of the school and the policies of the board.

Buffalo Trail Public Schools strongly encourages all community members with concerns about current health mandates to direct those concerns to the provincial members of government in their jurisdiction.

Sincerely,

Stephanie Spornitz

Board Chair
